The New Orleans Saints are amidst a struggle. They are banged up unlike any other team in the NFL, and the heat on Dennis Allen from the fan base is not going anywhere.

The Saints are in a good spot when it comes to next year's NFL Draft after their 2-5 start to the season, though. If they continue to lose in the coming weeks, it would make sense to lean into a youth movement that may turn into more long-term success, rather than victories in 2024.

Saints would pick 6th

If the season ended after Week 7 action, New Orleans would have a top ten selection. They are not quite in the top five, though.

The trenches would probably be the focus with an early pick for New Orleans. The offensive line has dealt with a plethora of injuries this season, and long-term questions remain at multiple spots along the unit up front.

Meanwhile, the Saints defensive line has struggled to get to the quarterback. To compound that issue, their run defense has quickly deteriorated over the past two seasons. This year, they have one of the worst rushing defenses in the NFC.

Simply put, they are getting run over. Adding a top-notch presence inside or off the edge could make the most sense in round one for New Orleans.

According to Tankathon, the Saints are just the second NFC team in the 2025 draft pecking order to start round one as of now. The Carolina Panthers are the other, picking second, with a 1-6 record after seven weeks of play.

Only time will tell how it will all shake out for the Saints. If they are picking in the top ten, it will probably with a new head coach running the ship in 2025, too. Plenty of moving parts to pay attention to as we enter a pivotal part of the season for the draft plans of New Orleans and their fans.
