Saints' missed tackles in 2024

The Saints officially have a terrifying trend on their hands. Early in the season, they were sure handed on defense. Over the past few weeks, that strength has turned into a glaring issue for Dennis Allen's unit.

New Orleans' missed tackles have continued to elevate week after week. They've missed double digit tackles in three straight matchups, all losses for the Saints.

  • Week 1 vs. CAR: 5
  • Week 2 vs. DAL: 7
  • Week 3 vs. PHI: 6
  • Week 4 vs. ATL: 10
  • Week 5 vs. KC: 13
  • Week 6 vs. TB: 15

Dennis Allen described the Saints' tackling as atrocious in Week 6 against the Bucs. When your tackling is that bad, you tend to give up a lot of points. New Orleans did exactly that against Tampa, allowing 51 points.

The Saints head coach does not think that it's an effort issue from his players. He more so believes that it is their execution and attention to detail.

"I think execution has been a big issue. We haven't executed as well as we need to. And tackling has been an issue. Something we have to figure out, and we have to figure it out in a hurry" — Dennis Allen

Injuries have mounted for the Saints over the past handful of weeks. The linebacker group has been dealing with a plethora of ailments, and the safety room has been hit hard, too.

That being said, there is no excuse for that many missed tackles for an NFL unit.
