The Miami Dolphins will have a new face in the linebacker room following the loss of LB Jaelan Phillips for the season. It's probably not a name that's going to bring the fanbase a whole lot of excitement though.
The team announced on Thursday afternoon that it has placed Phillips on the injured reserve list and signed LB Tyus Bowser off of the Seattle Seahawks' practice squad.
Phillips went down in the second quarter of the Dolphins' 31-12 loss on Monday night to the Tennessee Titans. He was hit in the knee by Miami safety Jordan Poyer while both players were trying to make a tackle.
Bowser, who played his college football for the Houston Cougars, was drafted in the 2nd round (47th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. In 7 years (6 with Baltimore, 1 with Seattle), he's appeared in 91 games (24 starts) with 19.5 sacks and 153 total tackles.
The move is a logical one, as he was on the Ravens' roster when Miami defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver was coaching in Baltimore. We'll see soon enough if Bowser will be called upon to help the Dolphins' offset the loss of Phillips. The Dolphins are, at least, getting someone with significant experience to try to accomplish that uphill battle.
