If you had said that the Cleveland Browns were going to start the season 1-4 this year, not many people would have believed you.
That is exactly what has happened after a loss to the Washington Commanders and the Browns have to look at things as they are, they are a bad football team right now.
Right at the front of things and the struggling offense is quarterback Deshaun Watson. Watson continues to rank toward the worst quarterbacks in the league and has yet to show anything close to what Cleveland hoped to have traded for.
Now, even former NFL head coaches are calling for Watson to be replaced.
"You can’t watch the Cleveland Browns and say this guy gives you the best chance to win,” former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said. “You lose credibility in the locker room, you have no chance to win."
Kevin Stefanski did say after the game that there was not quarterback change taking place. Watson turned the ball over once, threw a touchdown, and completed 15-of-28 passes for 125 yards. All in all, it was another poor performance for Watson and the Browns’ offense.
Since Cleveland traded a ton of draft capital and gave Watson a fully guaranteed contract, Watson has completed 60 percent of his passes for 2,944 yards and 18 touchdowns. Those numbers come in 16 games, in which Watson is 9-7 over that time. Make no mistake by it though, Cleveland is not winning because of him.
The Browns have to pay Watson for at least the next two seasons after this one, so benching hon would be a tough pill to swallow. But if they want to attempt to salvage this season, a change has to happen. At some point, if things keep trending in this direction, we are going to eventually see Jameis Winston. If not, what did the Browns sign him for?
Things are bad in Cleveland and there is a big cloud over the franchise right now. They’re at a crossroads with their quarterback and may have to make a decision sooner rather than later.
