Why Marquis Cooper earned bigger College Football 25 ratings boost than Kaleb Johnson, Travis Hunter, and Ashton Jeanty

The latest roster update for EA Sports' College Football 25 was sure to bring some level of criticism. With NIL factors and collectively bargained usage of players' names, there won't be massively downgraded ratings for struggling players. But, as seen with this week's batch of updates, it's easier to upgrade the ratings of those performing well.
While Travis Hunter's increase to a 97, somehow not a 99, caused a stir, the player who saw the biggest jump is someone you surely haven't heard of unless you're a Tuesday-night-MACTION-level sicko like we are.
Buffalo Bulls linebacker Marquis Cooper jumped from a 53 overall to an 80 overall in the latest CFB 25 update.
Cooper has logged 23 solo tackles across five games, including two for a loss, a blocked field goal, and one interception. His pick-six on UMass QB Taisun Phommachanh went for 100 yards, and gained a ton of attention on Twitter/X.
Cooper, a redshirt junior who moved from Colgate and earned his spot by walking on, has shown impressive performance. It remains to be seen if he can maintain his upward trajectory through his senior year and ultimately secure a spot on an NFL team.
Several players have seen significant improvements in their latest rating updates. Kaleb Johnson, a running back from Iowa, surged from a 74 to an 87 rating. The junior has been exceptionally dominant this season.
Johnson boasts an incredible average of 8.4 yards per carry.
With nine touchdowns to his name, he's managed a run of at least 39 yards in every game for the Hawkeyes this season. It's debatable whether the 13-point increase fully reflects Johnson's stellar performance.
Here's a summary of the rating changes, from the most significant increases to decreases. Darius Washington, the left tackle from Florida State Seminoles, saw his rating decrease by four points, bringing him to an 85 overall.
