The Oklahoma Sooners have had an offense debacle all year long. Even when things were fine and dandy in Week 1 after the Sooners dropped 50 points on the Temple Owls, things still didn't feel right for them on that side of the ball. Now, we are seeing exactly why.
The firing of offensive coordinator Seth Littrell won't fix anything this year, but it did help a bit. Then again, playing the Maine Black Bears helped as well. The Sooners made a quarterback change three times this year, and going back to the original guy is another reason we can say the offense has looked so much better since.
Against the Tennessee Volunteers, Jackson Arnold had several turnovers and was pulled for true freshman quarterback Michael Hawkins. Then, Hawkins started the next few games and won one of them against the Auburn Tigers. However, after three straight turnovers to start the game against the South Carolina Gamecocks, putting them down 21-0 before there were even 10 minutes left in the first quarter, he was pulled for Arnold.
Arnold came in and played great. Against Maine, he was amazing. How does a guy who probably lost a lot of confidence, or maybe not, go back in and do the amazing things we have seen him do?
"He chose to, instead of feel bad for himself and sorry for himself, instead of point the fingers and be paralyzed in the moment, he chose to grow and improve and get better and take ownership of all of his work," head coach Brent Venables said of Arnold.
You could say that the Sooners have mishandled their quarterback situation this season. They should have never made Hawkins the start after the Tennessee game. Should they have pulled Arnold, yes. But, that happens more than you may think, with the same guy going back to starting the next game. The staff should have just removed Arnold from that situation and then put him right back where he was the next week.
But that didn't happen.
Arnold has shown that he is relentless. If he does stay at Oklahoma, and Venables seems to think he will, he has shown that he has the mentality it takes to play at a school like OU.

The Sooners are confident as a whole.
