Firing a coach in the NFL is a difficult day for everyone involved. No one wants to fire someone, and no one wants to get fired! For the New Orleans Saints, they simply had no choice after they lost to the Carolina Panthers in Week 9 for their seventh defeat in a row.
Dennis Allen was relieved of his duties, and Darren Rizzi was named interim head coach. There's been tons of social media discussion regarding the decision so far.
Carl Granderson on Allen's firing
The defensive lineman for New Orleans has had a rollercoaster of emotion on social media over the past two days. On Sunday afternoon, he posted a blank screen with a heart and "Let It All Work Out" playing in the background on his Instagram story.
After news of Allen's departure on Monday morning, he seemed in much better spirits. He shared a smiling picture of himself , captioned "How i walked in work today".
Of course, the only difference between the two days is who is no longer the head coach of the team he plays for in the NFL. His relief and excitement for change in the Saints building shines quite bright.
Kendre Miller agrees
The Saints' young running back, nursing another hamstring injury, chimed in to provide some more comedic relief with some laughing emojis on Instagram.
Miller received a bit of indirect backlash from Allen during the offseason because of his missed time and preparation due to injuries so far in his career. Miller has played in just two games this season so far, after eight games played as a rookie in 2023 because of injury.
Regardless, these two have set themselves apart so far as current players that have been outwardly supportive of New Orleans' choice to fire Allen. We will see if more join them this week.
