It only took eight games and nine weeks, but the Kansas City Chiefs have finally elevated the maximum number of players from the practice squad for a single game.

As first reported by KPRC2's Aaron Wilson, the Chiefs have elevated WR Justyn Ross and CB Nic Jones from the practice squad ahead of the "Monday Night Football" game against the Tampa Bay  Buccaneers. Despite the rash of injuries, the team hasn't leaned on practice squad elevations much this season, with a lone elevation prior to the Week 9 game.

A seventh-round pick out of Ball State in the 2023 NFL draft, Jones' elevation is no surprise. With the injury to Nazeeh Johnson, the Chiefs are short on cornerback depth. Keith Taylor will be the primary backup on the defensive side of the ball, while Jones will get a heavy dose of special teams. He primarily played special teams in his first season with the Chiefs last year.

As for Ross, he's long been a fan-favorite in Kansas City, making some highlight-reel plays during the preseason and training camp, but he's struggled to put everything together on the field in meaningful games. He'll have a chance to prove he can do that this week. He would have played sooner, but Ross dealt with a minor hamstring injury over the past few weeks. It also sounds like fellow Clemson WR DeAndre Hopkins has taken him under his wing, which will only help further his development.

This is the first time either Ross and Jones have been elevated this season. The elevation of Ross might come as a surprise given their needs at return specialist with Skyy Moore out of the picture. Last week they elevated WR Montrell Washington, who logged five offensive snaps and five special teams snaps in Week 8 against the Las Vegas Raiders. He wasn't targeted, but he did return one kick for 14 yards.
