The 2024 season is far from over yet, and the Alabama Crimson Tide hope to find themselves competing in the College Football Playoff next month. However, head coach Kalen DeBoer must consider what's to come in 2025 for his program while still managing the here and now. One possibility is adding a transfer portal quarterback.

Alabama may not need to add a quarterback if Jalen Milroe decides to return to school instead of entering the 2025 NFL Draft. His decision will be complex after his stock has dropped with his recent play. But his physical traits will tantalize evaluators, and it's possible he still lands in the first round.

If he does go, our expert Ryan Roberts has heard the program, and former Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos share a mutual interest.

"When it comes to Castellanos, there are two schools that are rumored to have interest, and it sounds like it has been reciprocated by him. They are Florida State and Alabama. The former appears to be the most likely right now, but that could change if Crimson Tide signal caller Jalen Milroe opts to enter the 2025 NFL Draft," Roberts reported.

Castellanos went to Boston College after starting out at UCF. His first year brought significant struggles as a passer, but he was an electric runner. The hiring of former Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien as head coach put Castellanos in a new system that challenged him to grow, and the early results were great.

However, Castellanos stopped running much, and his passing efficiency has not met O'Brien's requirements. He was benched last week after a rough start against Syracuse.

Completing 58.6 percent of passes for 3,689 yards, 33 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions over three years, there's no question Castellanos' raw stats took a jump this season. However, his efficiency is like Milroe's, where the passes he doesn't take are as meaningful as the ones he does.

Running for 1,113 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2023, there's a lot of potential here. Will DeBoer have the patience or desire to work with another scrambler who isn't an elite pocket passer? If not, then Ohio State's Air Noland might make more sense, as he compares favorably to Michael Penix Jr.

Elite Ohio State freshman QB 'likely' to hit transfer portal this offseason

The cost of building an elite roster is high upfront, and it's especially hard for big programs to keep talent within their walls if players aren't on the field right away. The Ohio State Buckeyes are no stranger to losing talented players to the transfer portal, and this offseason will be no different. Even after […]
