Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni may have gotten his team in trouble during Friday's press conference.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts was listed on this week's injury report as a limited participant on Wednesday due to a "rest" day.
However, when Sirianni was asked about Hurts on Friday, he admitted that the Eagles' starting QB was battling an ankle injury.
“It was on the injury report dealing with the ankle,” Sirianni said. “Just making sure we’re precautious with everything.”
Eagles' public relations representative then pointed out that Hurts was not on the injury report with an ankle injury and Sirianni awkwardly tried to cover it up by saying, "Sorry, I thought you were talking about something else."
Hurts returned to practice as a full participant on Thursday, so it looks like he should be fine for Sunday, but the Eagles could get themselves in trouble if he is indeed dealing with an injury and they didn't report it.
Per the NFL's rulebook, any player with a significant or noteworthy injury must be listed on the practice report, even if he fully participates in practice and the team expects that he will play in the team’s next game.
If the team fails to do so, then the club could face fines or possible suspension.
For example last season, the Atlanta Falcons were fined $75,000, and former head coach Arthur Smith was fined $25,000, for not listing running back Bijan Robinson's injury in Week 7.
Quarterbacks play through ankle injury all of the time so it's possible Hurts covers it up well but the team will be questioned further about it.
