Running back Jonathon Brooks will finally make his NFL debut when the Carolina Panthers host the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 12, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
It's been a long road to get to this point for Brooks, who tore his ACL during his final season at Texas in a November game against TCU in 2023. The Panthers drafted him 46th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.
It was initially believed that Brooks would be recovered in time for the beginning of the regular season, but instead he was placed on the physically unable to perform/non-football injury list.
Carolina activated Brooks to the 53-man roster in Week 10, but he did not play during its win over the New York Giants. The Panthers are coming off of their bye week, so he'll have several practices under his belt before he sees his first game action,
Brooks is an explosive back with elite speed and good pass catching ability. He is entering a good situation being paired with Chuba Hubbard, who ranks fourth in the NFL in rushing yards. With Hubbard as the lead back, Brooks can take his time to learn and develop while being a nice complementary piece to Hubbard.
Brooks isn't the only reinforming coming in to help Carolina's offense this week, as wide receiver Adam Thielen is expected to make his return from a hamstring injury that he suffered back in Week 3. Here's what Panthers coach Dave Canales had to say about Brooks and Thielen's availability this week.
“I fully expect JB (Jonathon Brooks) to make his debut this week against the Chiefs,” Canales said. “Again, we have some practices to go through to make sure that we’re ready to go there. Same thing with (Adam) Thielen. Just get them out there. They were running around today. We’ll have a couple of practices to make that decision. But, my hope is to have both of those guys out there on Sunday.”
Brooks and Thielen's return are coming at the perfect time as the Panthers face their biggest test of the season against Kansas City. Having expectations for them to beat the Chiefs would be lofty, but if would be encouraging if the Panthers turn in a solid showing and not shoot themselves in the foot.
One of the Panthers’ best players got paid but it also means one of his closest teammates is out the door
The Carolina Panthers are having a dismal year, but there have been a few bright spots, nonetheless. One of said spots shines on running back Chuba Hubbard, who is well on his way to posting the best season of his four-year career. He leads the Panthers with 665 rushing yards on 133 carries and has […]
