In a report by ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Kansas City Chiefs have given tight end Noah Gray a three-year, $18 million contract extension with $10.1 guaranteed.
Gray was entering the last year of his rookie contract prior to signing the extension but is now under contract through the 2027 season. Chiefs GM Brett Veach revealed last week that the team would like to feature Gray more on offense, which led K.C. trading for tight end Peyton Hendershot, who can relieve Gray from some of his extra duties on special teams.
"It'd also be good to take Noah (Gray) off some of those things," Veach said. "I think Noah continues to get better, and he's a guy that I think we want to feature a little bit more this year. So, knowing that it's good to have the ability to take him off some of those, some of those special teams."
Since being drafted by the Chiefs in 2021, Gray has been a jack-of-all-trades type of player. While his main role is No. 2 tight end behind Travis Kelce, Gray has played some fullback and has been a huge contributor on special teams. While there are not a lot of targets to be had playing behind Kelce, Gray has been a sneaky-good weapon numerous times over the past three years.
Gray set season-highs in receiving yards and touchdowns last season and has 63 catches for 640 yards and four touchdowns for his career. With an expanded role on offense likely now coming, Gray could be in for a career year. The Chiefs' coaching staff clearly has a lot of trust in Gray and could use him to spell Kelce a bit more as Kelce enters the twilight of his career.
