The New Orleans Saints have their roster basically set for Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season. That roster does not include wide receiver Michael Thomas. The NFL's record holder for receptions in a season (149 in 2019) remains unsigned.

On Friday, we received an update on his status. The news may explain another reason why the interest in Thomas has seemingly been limited during this offseason.

NFL suspends former Saints WR Michael Thomas

Thomas will be suspended for Week 1 of the 2024 season for a violation of NFL rules. He is currently a free agent.

According to Tom Pelissero, the NFL suspended Thomas for a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy, related to an incident with a construction worker from last fall.

It was a legal matter that some people thought he may get reprimanded for during last season. Instead, his punishment from the league comes now for the start of the 2024 season.

Now, it is even harder to see a team taking a chance on the former Saints star before the season begins. He won't be able to play in Week 1, and he hasn't been around any team during the offseason for practices or workouts.

His health remains a question mark as a veteran wide receiver who has missed tons of time over the past three seasons.

Don't expect a reunion in New Orleans, and it's tough to project him being on any team's roster to begin the regular season. We will see if that changes once he serves his suspension.
