The Minnesota Vikings were busy when it came to roster moves on Wednesday. First, it was reported that the Vikings had signed center Matt Cindric after a successful workout.
Later on Wednesday, the team announced they had waived offensive lineman Jeremy Flax and special teams ace NaJee Thompson with injury designations. Both of them were somewhat of a surprise when it comes to the injury designation, especially after Thompson was reported to be returning to practice on Monday.
At this point, the Vikings had a roster spot open. The team announced they had claimed tight end Neal Johnson off waivers from the New York Jets. Here is what the Vikings website had to say about Johnson:
After he was waived by the Rams, Johnson was with the New York Jets for a short stint this month. He played six offensive snaps and caught one pass for a gain of 6 when the Jets visited the Panthers on Aug. 17.
Hailing from Mesquite, Texas, Johnson played college football at Louisiana-Lafayette from 2019-23. He appeared in 59 games over his five-season career, totaling 101 receptions for 1,196 yards and 11 touchdowns.
In 2023, Johnson recorded career highs for receptions (30), receiving yards (383) and touchdowns (five) within one season.
Johnson will likely get an opportunity to play against the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday.
