Brock Purdy isn't 100 percent healthy coming out of the San Francisco 49ers' shock Week 3 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams.
Thankfully his injury issue is very minor, and his supporting cast on offense is getting healthier going into a Week 4 matchup with the New England Patriots.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed on Monday that Purdy underwent an MRI on his back, however, that scan revealed little of concern.
"His MRI was good, so we feel good about that, but just sore today," Shanahan told a conference call. "Hopefully, he'll feel better by Wednesday."
Purdy produced an excellent performance against the Rams despite being without Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle, throwing for 292 yards and three touchdowns, all of which went to Jauan Jennings.
All-Pro tight end Kittle was ruled out of the Rams game with a hamstring injury, but Shanahan confirmed he is set to return to practice this week.
Given the 49ers' struggles on defense and the news that defensive tackle Javon Hargrave is out for the season with a partially torn triceps muscle, Kittle's return is crucial for an offense that will need to carry as much of the load as possible.
The Patriots' defense figures to provide a difficult test for Purdy and the 49er attack. With all he can do as both a receiver and a blocker, Kittle's prospective return should at least make it a little bit easier.
