Injuries suck.

For Buffalo Bills fans, we're getting all too familiar with dealing with them, especially to team leaders and and standout players.

Coming off a Week 1 home victory that saw the Bills beat the Arizona Cardinals 34-28, there were some dark clouds hanging over the W. Josh Allen injured his left hand late in the game, after Taron Johnson, the best nickel in the league, left the game with a forearm injury and did not return.

Speaking with the media on Monday, head coach Sean McDermott provided an injury update that will have Bills fans feeling conflicted.

"I'll start. with Josh," McDermott said. "As you guys are aware, Josh was injured in the fourth quarter. They looked at his hand. He went back in and functioned, and then he was looked at after the game again. He's been cleared to practice today and cleared to play in the game. Next up is Taron Johnson. He obviously did not return for the game or in the game, and he'll be ruled out for this week. Go on to Smoot. Will not practice today, and it's looking like he'll be ruled out as well for this game."

So, it's good news about Allen, who I assumed would be good to practice and was more just a question about his effectiveness and any limiting issues from the injury as we head towards the game.

It's definitely not good news about Johnson, though.

McDermott was asked about the severity of the injury to Johnson.

"I don't, and really, with Josh and Taron, I don't have much more information. With Taron, I don't know his timeline on when he'll be back, so we're still doing some further research on that," McDermott said.

Not only is Johnson out for Thursday in a matchup with the fastest offense in the league, but he also doesn't yet have a timeline for return. In his stead, it was Cam Lewis tasked with taking on a large role, and he had a great game. His next challenge? An offense that has more speed than any other team in the NFL.
