Longhorn Network lives! Well, the spirit of third-tier TV rights continue, anyway.
To watch Saturday’s game between No. 1 Texas and Louisiana-Monroe, fans might need some advance planning. The game will not be broadcast on a traditional over-the-air station or a typical channel on the expanded cable services.
ESPN+ and SEC Network+ will be carrying the game, which requires fans to have an additional streaming subscription. ESPN+ currently costs $10.99 per month, and it’s available for $14.99 per month when bundled with Hulu and Disney+.
To watch SEC Network+, fans would still need to download the ESPN+ app.
Before Texas’ move to the SEC, this is exactly the type of game that would be broadcast on Longhorn Network. Non-conference home games that don’t interest the major TV networks (think ABC, ESPN or Fox) fall into what’s called third-tier TV rights packages. Schools could then offer those games to anyone who would broadcast them.

Now that Longhorn Network has been folded into the SEC Network, this game falls into ESPN’s streaming department. Still, LHN household names Lowell Galindo and Fozzy Whittaker will be in the booth to call the game.
Other SEC teams have games on ESPN+. Texas A&M will play Bowling Green on ESPN+ this weekend, for example. With the new SEC TV contract, all conference games are obligated to be broadcast on one of the typical ABC or ESPN channels.
ESPN is allowed to broadcast one football and two basketball games exclusively on ESPN+ under the new contract, which pays an eye-popping $300 million per year through the 2033-34 academic year.
