The Denver Broncos may not be having the season we all thought they would be by now, but they are still respected in terms of the guys they have on the team.
The Broncos sit at 3-9, which is worse when you think about the 9-3 expectations they had this season. Getting Russell Wilson and a new head coach made those expectations possible.
Now, they look to face the Kansas City Chiefs, a team that is almost everyone's favorite to win the AFC. This is a team that is one of the most respected teams in the league, if not the most respected.
But some of their players respect the Broncos and know that this team has something special about them despite the bad record.
“I’ve briefly watched them on film a little bit, playing (against) the guys (the Broncos) last year," Chiefs offensive lineman Trey Smith said. "They are a very talented front seven (and) defensive front. (I) know a couple of guys that play there having played them last year.
"(They’re) extremely athletic, they play hard (and) there’s no quit in them. It’s definitely going to be a tremendous challenge up front. Like (Head) Coach (Andy Reid) alluded to earlier – the record says something but the team’s playing extremely hard, and you have to respect that, ultimately. It’s going to be a tremendous challenge up front.”
The defense is what makes this team so special. While, yes, they are 3-9, the defense is literally the reason they have those three wins. If it wasn't for the defense, the Broncos would be winless.
If you can add at least one more touchdown to every game the Broncos have played this year, they would have a very good record, and that's because of how well the defense has played, basically shutting down opponents.
This ferocious front line is who Trey Smith is going to be dealing with on Sunday. If the Broncos will have any chance at even coming close to a win, it will come by way of the defense wrecking havoc.
While the defense could do some damage, I still think the Chiefs can come out on top in this one. Maybe then that would help the Broncos get a higher draft pick in the first round. Oh, wait…
