The New Orleans Saints have dealt with plenty of turmoil this season.
Struggles on the field, injuries, and plenty more have played a big part for them all year. Luckily, they got some great news this week.
Linebacker Pete Werner is back at practice.
Werner is already a fan favorite. He is a fantastic player in the run game and leads the team in tackles alongside Demario Davis.
Werner has also shown growth in pass coverage against tight ends. He has become a really well-rounded LB for the Saints, and they are excited for his future.
Werner suffered his injury a couple weeks ago and got surgery.
The Saints expected him to miss a fair amount of time but didn't put him on injured reserve. That may have been the best decision since he is already back to practicing in a limited fashion.
If he was placed on IR, he would have had to miss at least four weeks. Now, he has an opportunity to return sooner rather than later.
If he is back for the game on Monday night versus the Buccaneers, that would be massive for the Saints' defense. Their aggressive play style versus Tampa Bay is vital to their chance of winning.
Kaden Elliss has been great in his place, but the trio of Werner, Davis, and Elliss is special.
The Saints should not rush him back, though. They must be smart with one of their best young players on defense.
