One Denver Broncos player isn't very happy with the way things have transpired the last few days. On Wednesday afternoon, the Pro Bowl rosters were announced, and the star of the Broncos didn't make the team.
Justin Simmons, whom you could argue is the best player on the team, didn't make the Pro Bowl. But, that isn't the reason he is upset. He is upset because it's almost like he never had a chance based on the rules.
"It is what it is," Simmons said Thursday when asked about not making the Pro Bowl based on the rules.
For some odd reason, the Pro Bowl only has one free safety spot, which is Simmons' primary position. However, there are two strong safety positions. To be a Pro Bowler at free safety, Simmons would have had to beat out Minkah Fitzpatrick of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
With Simmons missing as many games as he did, that just wasn't going to happen. However, he still deserved to be a Pro Bowler.
It isn't fair though, because Simmons plays more than one position, and lines up all over the place.
"Obviously, I'm disappointed, right? One of my goals was to be a starter… It's just more motivation, just like last year.
"I think every position, there is always like three or four, besides the safety position… Unfortunately, there is only one free safety spot. I believe that should change…"
Simmons has now been the first alternate two years in a row. Had there been two free safety spots both years, we would be talking about a back-to-back Pro Bowler.
