The Buffalo Bills have every piece necessary in order to make a Super Bowl run this season.
I know Bills Mafia had the same thought last year before being burned in the AFC Divisional Round by Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, but that loss might have been a blessing in disguise.
Hear me out.
If Mahomes hadn’t led the game-tying drive with just 13 seconds left in regulation, and then the game-winning drive in overtime, are we sure Buffalo backs up the Brink’s truck for Von Miller this offseason?
The Bills’ pass rush wasn’t getting home on that fateful night in Arrowhead Stadium. Most general managers would address the issue by signing an affordable veteran pass rusher to a one-year rental contract in the offseason.
Not Bills GM Brandon Beane.
Beane handed Miller a six-year deal worth a whopping $120 million, and through just six games he has already seen a hefty return on his investment.
Not only is Miller tied for second in the NFL with six sacks, but Buffalo’s entire defensive front has been wreaking havoc on opposing quarterbacks. The Bills have generated 128 pressures this year, ranking second in the league behind the Dallas Cowboys (143).
When it’s not Miller it’s the budding stars in Greg Rousseau and A.J. Epenesa. DT Daquan Jones has been a revelation in the middle of the trenches as has Ed Oliver and Jordan Phillips when they’ve been healthy.
Not only did the Bills beat Kansas City last week, but it’s how they did it that should inspire confidence amongst Bills Mafia. It was a low scoring contest at 24-20. The Bills sacked Mahomes three times and the pass rush influenced each of his two interceptions.
The Bills can win in a variety of different fashions, but it’s their pass rush that the team can now lean on in desperate moments towards the end of games. That is what makes this Bills team unflappable.
