Jordan Davis has embodied everything that his Philadelphia Eagles team represents after suffering the first significant injury in his professional career.
Due to an ankle injury suffered in Week 8 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Davis was placed on injured reserve. After sitting on the shelf for four weeks, Davis returned to practice on Wednesday, creating some optimism surrounding his status for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans.
Unlike most athletes, who would spend that time to rest and recover, Davis put his head down and got to work.
“Y’all will be surprised, but I lost 20 pounds since I was out," Davis told reporters on Thursday. "So, from the Steelers game to now I lost 20 pounds. So, you know, conditioning is high.”
“You don’t want to ease your way out. You want to be able to come back and be the same person that you were, or even better. That’s one thing that I’ve strived for while I was out is just being able to come back, and when I do come back that I’m still that same player, or even better.”
Work ethic doesn’t seem to be an issue for the team’s first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman went out and signed Linval Joseph and Ndamukong Suh in Davis’ absence. Rotating the sizable trio when fatigue sets in will surely frustrate opposing offensive linemen.
However, if Davis can return back to form, Philadelphia’s interior defensive line becomes a three-headed run-stopping nightmare. It just so happens that it’s the recipe necessary to stop Derrick Henry and the Titans’ offense on Sunday.
