The New Orleans Saints have continually shot themselves in the foot so far this season. Today, they did that once again against the Bengals.
The Saints led for almost the entire game. The most important score is the final one, though, and the Bengals made the plays in the final few minutes to win the game.
Between penalties and self-inflicted mistakes, the Saints continue to keep playing a very similar game every week. Today was a bit different as they got off to a fast start.
Eventually though, the Saints broke down too often on defense and played too conservatively on offense. Throw in a costly special team mistake, and that is how you lose a winnable game in the NFL.
All that being said, the NFC South has been quite underwhelming as a whole.
The Bucs lead the division at 3-3. The Falcons are in second as 3-3 as well, and New Orleans is in third at 2-4.
The Panthers are in the basement, and that probably won't change this season.
The Saints still have a shot at the division crown, but they have to turn this thing around quickly.
The Bucs have not played to their potential yet, so they could start rolling off wins more often. The Falcons are playing with grit and have been competitive in every game so far this year.
The Saints will probably have to win the division in order to make the postseason, but there is still a route to do that.
