The Denver Broncos have had their deficiencies on offense. On defense, that has not been the case.
Both the defensive line and secondary have been top notch through five weeks.
Getting pressure on the quarterback can win you games in the NFL, and the Broncos are doing that at a great clip.
To contend in the AFC, they have to continue to be elite along the defensive line.
Against quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, Lamar Jackson, etc., the Broncos must force the issue. Giving them too much time in the pocket is asking for trouble.
Bradley Chubb is back to his old ways and performing like the first-round pick he was touted as years ago. He has 5.5 sacks to lead the team.
Dre'Mont Jones has 2.5 sacks, and D.J. Jones and Randy Gregory both have two.
Gregory has missed substantial time with injury as well. His presence only makes the defensive line for the Broncos even more impressive.
Baron Browning and Josey Jewell both have 1.5 sacks. They have quickly become two fan favorites for the Broncos.
Going forward, continuing this type of proaction on defense will be necessary. It helps when you have the secondary that Denver possesses, too.
They have a plethora of talent at every level, and they have to keep performing for the Broncos to have a chance at postseason play.
