When the Kansas City Chiefs lost Super Bowl LV to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the offensive line was identified as an area that the franchise needed to upgrade.

So that's what Chiefs general manager Brett Veach did last offseason.

Kansas City signed offensive linemen Orlando Brown and Joe Thuney. Then they got a steal by landing former Tennessee Vols offensive lineman Trey Smith in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

So what area do the Chiefs need to address this offseason?

While there's plenty of attention being placed on Kansas City's poor offensive showing in the second half against the Cincinnati Bengals, it shouldn't be overlooked that the Chiefs only sacked Joe Burrow one time in the AFC Championship game.

The previous week, Burrow was sacked by the Tennessee Titans nine times.

Kansas City lost by three points to the Bengals in overtime. I don't think it's hyperbole to suggest that if the Chiefs would've sacked Burrow four or five times, they win the game.

That's why I expect Veach to upgrade the Chiefs' pass-rushing unit this offseason.

And I think there's an obvious candidate to join Kansas City.

Current Los Angeles Rams edge rusher Von Miller.

Miller, who joined the Rams after being traded from the Denver Broncos mid-season, isn't the same dominant force he once was.

But he's still one of the better pass rushers in the NFL.

Pro Football Focus views Miller as the second-best available edge rusher this offseason (behind Chandler Jones).

From PFF:

Von Miller may not be what he was at his peak, but he’s not too far off, as his 85.9 overall grade through Week 13 of the 2021 season ranks sixth among edge rushers.

PFF is projecting Miller to get a two-year contract worth $17 million a year. That's doable for the Chiefs, who are projected by USA Today to have $60 million available to spend this offseason (based on some restructures and cap casualties).

If quarterback is the most important position in the NFL, then it makes sense that getting after the quarterback should be the top priority when building a defense. Pairing Miller with defensive tackle Chris Jones could give the Chiefs a dangerous pass-rushing attack.

And I truly believe that if the Chiefs would've had that type of pass-rushing attack this season, they'd be playing in the Super Bowl against the Rams instead of the Bengals.
