Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel made it clear this week that he believes UT is the preferred college football team of folks in Nashville.
"This is Tennessee territory," said Heupel while standing on Vanderbilt's football field on Sunday.
Heupel and the Volunteers know that Nashville is a massively important recruiting area for Tennessee. That's why they're making it a point this week to declare Nashville as Vol territory.
It's hard to argue against the Vols being "Nashville's team". Vanderbilt routinely struggles to fill its stadium in Nashville. Tennessee, however, will likely have more fans at the Music City Bowl on Thursday than Vanderbilt averages in a non-pandemic season.
That tells you all you need to know about Nashville and its love for the Vols.
