There was one thing that I was worried about as the Kansas City Chiefs hosted the Los Angeles Rams in Week 12. Before the game started, it looked that Kansas City would have some adversity, but they handled it well.
Prior to kickoff, news broke that iron man and left guard Joe Thuney would miss the game, and his streak of 107 consecutive starts would be snapped.
So, with that news, it was apparent veteran Nick Allegretti would get the start at left guard.
Do you know who the left and right guards have to block when they play the Los Angeles Rams? Only a guy who is widely considered the best to ever do it on defense. Aaron Donald, who is an absolute monster.
The adversity the Chiefs were supposed to face came by way of a backup and second-year guard having to block the greatest defensive tackle ever.
But they handled that adversity pretty well, I'd say.
“Yeah, (Rams DL) Aaron’s (Donald) a pretty good player, so that’s a big challenge," head coach Andy Reid said after the game.
"But, he did a nice job. I thought (Offensive Line Coach) Andy Heck had a nice scheme set up, too, to work slides and so on with him, but both he and 54 (Rams LB Leonard Floyd), you better be on your A game because both those two are good football players.”
Donald came into Week 12 not having the exact season I think we all thought he would, but that doesn't mean he is having a bad season. Before facing the Chiefs, he had 36 total pressures, which is the top 30 in the league.
This is a guy who in just nine seasons, one isn't even finished yet, has over 100 career sacks already, yet, the Chiefs' offensive line held up their end of the bargain.
Mahomes was pressured on Sunday, sure, but he wasn't sacked, which was something that a lot of people worried about before the game considering the circumstances.
But after the win, after the backup guard shut down Donald and didn't give up a sack, no one is talking about how well the Chiefs faced adversity. This team just keeps finding ways to get better and get the job done.
That's why right now they are the best team in the NFL, because they keep fighting through adversity.
