The Buffalo Bills are currently on top of the NFL world. They're 4-1, currently the number one seed in the AFC and the heavy Super Bowl favorites.
A big reason for this is the play of MVP-hopeful QB Josh Allen.
- 1,651 passing yards: 1st
- 16 combined touchdowns: 1st
- 66.8% passes completed: 7th
- 78.5 total QBR: 3rd
A dominant season that's overshadowing another in-house. Free agent acquisition Von Miller is having an early dominant season in his 12th season.
How dominant exactly? At the age of 33, Miller is leading the Bills in most defensive categories and ranks among the league's best.
- 12 QB pressures: 13th
- 4.0 sacks: 10th
- 32% pass rush win rate: 2nd
- Seven QB hurries: 2nd
The updated odds have Miller with the 7th-best odds to win Defensive Player of the Year at +3000. Well behind the early, heavy favorite Micah Parsons (+100).
If the Bills maintain dominance on offense (1st) and defense (2nd) throughout the season and finish with the number one seed, it's entirely possible that both the MVP and DPOY could land in Buffalo.
Why is that important?
In the Super Bowl era, this has only happened in three other seasons.
1971: DL Alan Page named both MVP and Defensive Player of the Year.
1986: LB Lawrence Taylor named both MVP and Defensive Player of the Year.
1994: QB Steve Young named MVP. DB Deion Sanders named Defensive Player of the Year.
Two of these three seasons ('86 and '94) resulted in winning the Super Bowl. The Buffalo Bills maintain themselves as favorites to make it to Glendale, AZ in February.
If they are able to land both of these awards, history says they'll have more jewelry than Flavor Flav's wardrobe.
Allen and Miller are both having great seasons, respectively. It looks like they're going to end up having exclusive, historical ones beyond the realm of expectation.
