The Kansas City Chiefs have a really, really good roster. It's because they are very good at finding talent, in different ways.

Let's face it. Some of the guys the Chiefs were trotting out there for preseason games, the casual fan doesn't know, which is okay. No one expects fans to know every player in the league. In fact, I don't think anyone does.

But the Chiefs are so good at finding talent that it shows, especially during this time of the year. Right now, there are position battles throughout the second and third teams.

Right now, there is a guy who a lot of people outside of Chiefs Kingdom don't know, and he is making his case for a backup position on this team.

Chiefs quarterback is making a case for a roster spot

Throughout training camp, Shane Buechele and Chad Henne have been great. Of course, we know Patrick Mahomes has been great. However, the backup quarterback spot is much more important than people realize, even if your starter is one of the best.

Two years ago in the playoffs, we saw Mahomes have to miss some of the game against the Cleveland Browns, and Henne stepped in and stepped up, and won the game for the Chiefs.

That's why backups are so important.

The Chiefs have two good backup quarterbacks on their hands, which is a good thing. However, there is one problem.

I'm one of the few people that think the Chiefs will only keep two quarterbacks on the roster. There are some that think they will keep three. If they were to only keep two, they would surely be Mahomes and Henne.

However, with the way Buechele has been playing, he has to be making the Chiefs consider keeping a roster spot open for a third quarterback.

Buechele has played the most snaps of any quarterback for the Chiefs with 93. In those snaps, Buechele did some impressive things.

In the first game against the Chicago Bears, Buechele went 12 for 19 with 99 yards, a touchdown, and an interception on 28 total snaps. Not a bad game, if we are being honest.

Against the Commanders, Buechele went 8 for 15 and had 70 yards on 30 total snaps. Could be better, but definitely not bad.

Then, against the Green Bay Packers, Buechele went 11 for 17 with 166 yards and two touchdowns. Oh, and he had a quarterback rating of 135.9. This was easily his best game.

The Chiefs may not decide to keep those quarterbacks, but there is no one in the world who can convince me that they aren't at least considering it with Buecheles' play. Is he better than Henne, probably not? Henne has won a playoff game, so he will likely always have that edge.

However, what happens when Henne goes out, too? Buechele would be a great third-string quarterback for the Chiefs if given the chance.
