With the New Orleans Saints closing out the preseason against the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday evening, the starters have played very few snaps throughout two games.
Coach Dennis Allen, typically coy about game-time plans, has indicated that some of New Orleans' top players may play a series or two, according to Bob Rose of Saints News Network.
Here is who Saints fans may see Friday evening: Jameis Winston, QB; Jarvis Landry, WR; Tyrann Mathieu, S; and the 1st Team Defensive Line.
Noticeably absent from that list are players who are nursing injuries: WR Michael Thomas, linemen Ryan Ramczyk or James Hurst, LB Pete Werner, and CB Marshon Lattimore.
Playing starters in the preseason isn't as widely practiced as it once was in the NFL. However, with New Orleans aiming to compete in the division, and seemingly limitless talent at skill positions, players need to get on the same page — fast.
That is done through playing. And although not guaranteed, it wouldn't be a surprise to see any of the players listed above playing snaps come Friday night.
