The Buffalo Bills placed OLB Von Miller on injured reserve on Thursday, Tom Pelissero from NFL Network reported.
The move ensures Miller will miss at least four games, including the Week 13 match-up against the New England Patriots in Foxborough. It's a tough blow for the Bills defense that will try to adjust schematically to the star pass rusher's absence.
Bills general manager Brandon Beane described the decision to place Miller on I.R. on Thursday as a patience play.
"We just think in talking to the medical people that the best decision right now is to give this time, and that gives him the best opportunity to help us down the stretch," stated Beane per Matt Parrino from News 4 Buffalo. "
This could turn out to be a very smart play for the Bills. With a playoff berth essentially in the bag (even if still fighting for the division title and better seeding), there's no denying the front office signed Miller in the offseason thinking of the playoffs.
Fortunately, Beane offered a silver lining as well by stating the Bills are still expecting Von Miller to be available at the end of the season.
At the earliest, Von Miller could return to the Bills' 53-man roster in Week 17. Just in time for a Monday Night Football showdown against Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals. But whether or not he comes back then, we'll find out.
