The Denver Broncos just submitted themselves as playoff contenders for at least the next seven years by making one big move before the season starts.
They have reached an agreement with Russell Wilson to extend him and make him the highest-paid Denver Broncos player of all time, before even taking one snap in the orange and blue.
The extension is for five more years, and it's worth $245 million, with $165 million of it guaranteed.
Russell Wilson is now the second highest paid quarterback in the league with an annual average value of $49 million a year. That's a little under $1 million from what the back-to-back MVP is getting paid yearly.
The Broncos will be contenders for the next seven years now because of this deal.
I'll put it like this. Wilson wins. It's plain and simple. That is what he did in Seattle, and that is what he will do in a Broncos uniform.
He is one of those players that, no matter how your roster looks, if you have him you are always a contender. Now the Broncos will be for the next seven seasons.
It is also safe to say that the Penner-Walton ownership group hammered their first big deal.
