KANSAS CITY– The Chiefs took a flyer on Mecole Hardman a few years ago when they drafted him over several other wide receivers.
Hardman was drafted 56th overall in the 2019 NFL draft. The Chiefs chose to take him over some notable names in today's league. D.K. Metcalf, Paris Campbell, Diontae Johnson, and Terry McLaurin, to name a few receivers.
If you have been following the Chiefs since Hardman's debut, you know he has had his fair share of troubles. Hardman has fumbled a few times in situations the Chiefs couldn't afford to. He has had drops when he shouldn't.
Hardman said something at the most recent presser that may have fans feeling the same as they have before.
Chiefs' Hardman struggles at practice
Hardman is now going into his fourth NFL season and has shown huge potential. If there is any year he is going to take that step, it's this year.
However, hearing him say something like this, will likely spook some fans.
"It's a pass I need to catch. I dropped two in a row, back-to-back. It's just not being out there for a minute, you kind of want to be perfect when you go out there. It's kind of one of those things where you are frustrated with yourself. I know that I can be better. I can definitely be better than that," explained Hardman when asked about frustrations during practice.
While it is never good to hear a player struggling, Hardman did finish the day on a good note.
"I actually bounced back and caught everything after that. It was just one of those moments," said Hardman.
The Chiefs will need him this year, maybe more than in the last few years. With Tyreek Hill gone, there is a lot of unknown. Some of that is with all the new additions in the room.
The moment of self-reflection is a good thing, however. It's nice to hear Hardman own up to his mistakes. At the same time, those mistakes need to start disappearing as quickly as possible.
If Hardman wants a real shot at being a star receiver, now is the time.
