The Tennessee Volunteers hopes are still alive to win the East and make the trip to Atlanta. On Saturday, the Vols took care of business and beat Kentucky, 49-36.
The Big Orange may have played their most complete SEC game of the season. QB Josh Dobbs played extremely well, John Kelly was tremendous out of the backfield and the defense pressured Kentucky all day.
Here are 3 Reason Why: Tennessee got the job done vs UK
Josh Dobbs
History was made today by senior quarterback Josh Dobbs.
Over 200 yard passing and over 100 yards rushing, with 5 total touchdowns…. you do the math.
Dobbs was the main reason why the Vols got another SEC victory. Watch this run from the stands of Neyland Stadium.
Big Plays
Through the air or on the ground, it really didn't matter for Tennessee's offense. Led by Josh Dobbs, the Vols had more than ten plays that went for 20 or more yards. One of those was some trickeration on the part of offensive coordinator Mike DeBord. DeBord called a flea flicker that Tennessee executed to perfection, which gave the Vols a two score lead early in the 3rd quarter.
The Running Game
Jalen Hurd who???
Yep, I said it.
Let's start with John Kelly. Kelly has emerged as a very serviceable back for the Vols. With Hurd's exit, it opened the door for the Tennessee offense to play more to their strength, speed. Kelly ended the day with 94 yards and a handful of hard nose runs.
Kelly even showed off his blocking abilities on this Dobbs run.
Alvin Kamara returned from a knee injury and looked really good. Accounting for two of the Vols seven touchdowns on the day, Kamara was difference maker in extending the lead.
Dobbs, Kelly and Kamara combined for 369 yards on the ground. This continually gave the Kentucky defense fits.
