Minnesota Vikings make really smart roster move to fortify their weakest position on the roster
It’s been a position that’s been the focus of the Minnesota Vikings media for quite some time, and it finally feels addressed.
The edge rusher position has been one spot that the Minnesota Vikings had questions at the entire offseason. Last week, they finally addressed it with the addition of Kyle Van Noy to the practice squad.
It’s not a full-fledged fix for the Vikings, especially from a long-term perspective, but it does exactly what they needed for the 2026 season: find someone who can be a rotational player who can play 400-500 snaps.
Minnesota Vikings add edge rusher to practice squad
On Monday, the Vikings added a player who became a fan favorite during the preseason in edge rusher Kenny Dyson.
The Vikings added Dyson during the preseason, and he wasn’t seen as someone who had a chance to make the roster. It was a similar, yet different situation to that of Jalen Redmond when the Vikings signed him out of the UFL.
Dyson played for the Houston Gamblers this past season, racking up 4.5 sacks in 10 games. He came into Minnesota buried on the depth chart, but made an impact quickly.
He only got 15 pass rush reps in the preseason, but made the most of them. He registered six pressures and a sack.
There is something there with Dyson, and after the Vikings agreed to an injury settlement with him, there was a real question about whether or not he would be back on the team. Luckily, the Vikings and Dyson were able to make that happen. It’s a nice developmental piece to have, and he could get elevated for a game or two throughout the season.
