2020 three-star athlete Darion Williamson, who committed to the Tennessee Vols last summer, is taking an official visit to Florida State.
Williamson, 6-foot-3/190 lbs from Brownsville, TN (about an hour northeast of Memphis), is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 16 player in the state of Tennessee and the No. 32 athlete in the nation.
The Tennessee native can play on either side of the ball. He certainly has potential, but it would be surprising at this point if he ends up in Knoxville.
It appears that Williamson is the victim of the numbers crunch. Because of transfers (Velus Jones and Cade Mays), the Vols are limited at the number of players they can sign in February (it's unclear how the numbers will actually work out). For that reason, Williamson is keeping his options open and visiting other schools.
The Vols better hope they guessed right on Williamson. Seeing a former in-state recruit that was "let go" succeed somewhere else could be tough for Tennessee fans to stomach.
