The Tennessee Vols dropped from No. 1 to No. 5 in the latest AP poll, after their loss to the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday night.
That's a steep drop for the Vols, especially since both of their losses this season are to top 12 teams (Kansas and Kentucky).
But fortunately for Tennessee, their ranking in the AP top 25 isn't very important.
That's because what really matters for the Vols is their seeding in the NCAA tournament. Tennessee needs to lock down a No. 1 seed for the easiest path possible to the Final Four (not that any path is "easy).
Despite UT's tumble in the AP top 25, the Volunteers are still a No. 1 seed in Jerry Palm's latest bracket update.
Palm currently has Tennessee as the No. 1 seed in the Midwest region. Michigan and Kansas are the other heavy hitters in that region in Palm's projection.
Obviously a lot will change between now and when the brackets are revealed. But the Vols are still on track to be a top seed in the NCAA tournament.
And I think Tennessee can afford another two losses this season and still be a No. 1 seed.
Though I'm sure Rick Barnes would prefer finishing the regular season on another long winning streak.
