Derrick Henry has enjoyed the riches of personal success and league wide stardom during his tenure with the Tennessee Titans.

Rushing titles, MVP consideration — albeit relatively small in comparison to other candidates — Pro Bowl honors, All-Pro selections, Henry has seemingly done it all during his time in Tennessee.

The only thing that has eluded his grasp, is an appearance in the greatest game football can bring to the table, and his place atop some of the team's most prestigious statistical records.

However, this Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, Henry has a chance to cross off one of the tasks that haven't been checked off his career long to-do list.

And that task, is becoming the sole record holder of the Titans' all time record for total touchdowns scored.

It's been a long road for Henry to get to this point.

From hearing his name in trade rumors in 2018, to spearheading the Titans' offense and gaining a reputation as one of, if not the best running back in football in 2022, the journey has certainly been a wild one to say the least.

Despite the rapid ups and downs though, Henry has remained humble throughout the process.

So much so, that it wasn't surprising to hear Henry's thoughts on inching closer towards the records that two of the franchise's all time greats — Eddie George and Earl Campbell  hold.

As well as his own personal story when it comes to witnessing the greatness of those two.

"I was a kid, looking at the TV watching Eddie [George] run, watching Earl [Campbell] on NFL Films," Henry said. "They're the epitome of this franchise."

Henry isn't close to breaking the Titans' all time rushing record. Although your version of close might differ from ours, considering Henry needs just over 2,800 yards to break Campbell's all time rushing yardage record.

But a record Henry is close to breaking, is the team's all time record of total touchdowns scored.

The record is 74 and is held by none other than George himself. But Henry has a chance to break that record this Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, as he has 73 total touchdowns.

Good for second most on the list.

It isn't one that holds the same glam and glamour as an all time rushing yardage record or even an all time passing yardage record. But it's one that represents a change in guard at running back for the Titans, in terms of referencing team history that's littered with running backs.

That might not seem significant at first glance, but it feels much so in a sense.

Maybe not for the statistical story solely, but maybe for the gradual real time build up to this moment, and the journey the main star of the show has walked to get here.

Once Henry breaks the record, it'll stand as another moment that potentially never could've happened for Henry. Who knows what would've happened if George's infamous phone call to Henry didn't jumpstart Henry's blazing end of the season run in 2018.

But that isn't a discussion to be held at this time.

Instead, it should be put on the back-burner while Henry receives the chance to celebrate an impressive broken team record.

"It's always a dream come true to be associated with them [Eddie George and Earl Campbell]," Henry said. "Definitely two guys I looked up to."
