After his historic 2020 season, Derrick Henry can add another award to his showcase. The Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame named Henry the "Tennesseean of the Year" early on Thursday morning. The honors will be announced live on a TV special the weekend of June 26th.
This honor comes after "The King" became only the 8th player in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards in a single season. Additionally, the Titans running back won AP Offensive Player of the year in 2020. In total, Henry ran for 2,027 yards and 17 touchdowns as he led Tennessee back to the playoffs. Currently, his 55 career rushing touchdowns are 3rd in franchise history. He has totaled 5,860 rushing yards in his career, and that puts him 4th in team history in that category. He will certainly continue to climb those charts.
Henry made a huge impact in the community as well during this past year. He made contributions to the community's COVID-19 relief as well as tornado recovery in Middle Tennessee. Many would say his actions off the field are even more impressive than his record-setting numbers on the football field. That's saying something.
This is yet another honor for Henry, as they continue to mount during both his college and professional career. At only 27, there is no doubt that this won't be the last award for the star running back.
