A Kansas City Chiefs veteran somewhat surprisingly made the team's 53-man roster.

According to a report from KC Star's Herbie Teope, running back Ronald Jones made the roster on Tuesday.

Teope said that Jones "played his way on the roster" in the Chiefs' final preseason game against the Green Bay Packers.

Jones had eight carries for 43 yards and one catch on one target for four yards in the 17-10 win against Green Bay.

Jones, who spent the first four seasons of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, gives the Chiefs a "home run hitter". He's a legitimate threat to score every time he touches the ball.

The biggest concern with Jones is his effectiveness as a pass blocker, as well as his ability to catch out of the backfield. When it comes to running the ball, though, Jones might be the best pure runner on the team.

This move means the Chiefs will almost certainly keep four running backs, with the other three being Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Jerick McKinnon, and Isiah Pacheco.

While it's not the expectation, it wouldn't be shocking if Jones ends up leading Kansas City in rushing this season — especially with Edwards-Helaire's injury struggles early in his career.
