Free-agent safety Tyrann Mathieu is still looking for a new team and it appears that the Pittsburgh Steelers are still a possibility.
According to a report from NFL reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala, Mathieu to Pittsburgh "isn't dead".
Mathieu is reportedly intrigued by the idea of playing for Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin.
I'm not surprised that Mathieu is interested in playing for Tomlin.
The former LSU star is big on leadership. In fact, he recently said on The Jordy Culotta Show in Baton Rouge that he's looking for a team that has strong locker room leadership.
That would certainly make the Steelers a good fit.
The general feeling, however, has been that Pittsburgh isn't going to pay Mathieu, who turns 30 this spring, the type of money he's looking for in free agency.
That means this is probably a situation where the Steelers are keeping an eye on Mathieu and if he gets to a price point that Pittsburgh is comfortable with, then maybe a deal gets done.
Mathieu, meanwhile, is checking out other NFL franchises. On Tuesday, the Honey Badger visited the New Orleans Saints. Mathieu is from New Orleans, so the Saints could be the team to beat for Mathieu regardless of money.
