Earlier this month, a report surfaced that suggested the Pittsburgh Steelers are waiting on Tyrann Mathieu to sign somewhere before the franchise addresses their need for a safety.
That report may not have been accurate.
The Athletic's Ed Bouchette reported on Wednesday that he doesn't believe the Steelers are interested in signing Mathieu.
Forget the Honey Badger, because I don’t think they have an interest. I thought Edmunds would be re-signed, and it could still happen. Or maybe they have ideas of drafting one, or maybe Edmunds just doesn’t want to come back. Either way, they need someone to start there who is not yet on their roster.

The Steelers still need to sign another safety. And it's actually a bit surprising that their "interest" in Mathieu has waned (I believe there was interest at one time, considering that Mike Tomlin phone call to Mathieu).
Mathieu recently told KansasCity.com that he would've re-signed with the Kansas City Chiefs for around $10 million a year, which is cheaper than the $15 million a year we thought he would get in free agency. Now, he could still get $15 million a year, but you'd think the Steelers would be a bit more interested in signing the Honey Badger after hearing he could be cheaper.
Pittsburgh could still choose to bring Terrell Edmunds back, or they could look at other free agent safety options that are cheaper.
