There's been some speculation in recent weeks that Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy could leave KC for another offensive coordinator position.

Bieniemy's contract is set to expire this spring.

The thought here is that Bieniemy has been passed over for numerous head coaching jobs over the last couple of years and it could partially be due to coaching under Andy Reid (who has a heavy hand in the offense). If Bieniemy left Kansas City, he could "prove himself" (not that he should have to) under a different head coach.

The Chiefs support Bieniemy, but they also want him back in 2022. No deal has been signed, but this isn't a situation where they're encouraging Bieniemy to look around.

Bieniemy could still look around, but it's looking increasingly likely that he'll be back in Kansas City in 2022.

Ultimately, this is great news for the Chiefs (if Bieniemy decides to return). The team needs continuity on offense. Retaining Bieniemy, an important voice on the offensive staff, will provide that much-needed continuity.

Maybe next year's head coaching cycle will go better for Bieniemy. There's no doubt at this point that he deserves a shot to be a head coach.
