New PFF mock draft has Chiefs ignoring big need with first three picks

Receiver is just one of the many things the Chiefs need in this draft. They also need a pass rusher and help at defensive back. The Chiefs have a chance to go get all of those needs in the first two rounds. They can do this because they have four picks in said rounds.
I am by no means saying that receiver is the biggest need, no. However, it is one of the hardest to hit on, especially if you are taking one late.
PFF's latest Chiefs mock draft has it all wrong
Pro Football Focus, a respectable site that grades both college and professional players based on advanced stats, has the Chiefs avoiding the receiver position with their first three picks in the upcoming NFL draft.
Granted, PFF's/the Chiefs' three picks do in fact cover other needs. However, they are not projected in this mock draft to pick a receiver. In my opinion, the wider receiver spot is the hardest to hit on late in drafts. The Chiefs need immediate impact at the position, not a developmental-type player.
For instance, only two receivers have eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards during their rookie years after being drafted in the third round since 2001 – Keenan Allen (2013) and Marques Colston (2006). Only one, Tampa Bay's Mike Williams, registered double-digit touchdowns during that span.
This PFF mock draft has the Chiefs drafting these players as followed:
- Pick No. 29 overall: EDGE Boye Mafe, Minnesota Golden Gophers
- Pick No. 30 overall: S Daxton Hill, Michigan Wolverines
- Pick No. 50 overall: DL Nik Bonitto, Oklahoma Sooners
In recent mock drafts that have been thrown out there by PFF and other sites, there are plenty of good receivers in the first two rounds. I'd rather the Chiefs take one there, that has higher potential for instant impact and lower bust potential, than have to develop a late pick-receiver that has a greater chance of not panning out.
