You might think that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mitch Trubisky and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes don't have a lot in common.
But you'd be wrong.
Well….a little bit wrong.
Trubisky and Mahomes share an impressive feat together. They're the only two quarterbacks in the NFL over the last five years to throw for six touchdowns in a game.
Mahomes accomplished the feat in 2018 against the Steelers.
Trubisky also did it in 2018 (just a couple of weeks after Mahomes did it). He was a member of the Chicago Bears when he tossed six touchdowns in a win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Trubisky obviously isn't in the same area code as Mahomes — very few quarterbacks can claim that they are.
But this accomplishment shows that analysts might be sleeping on Trubisky in 2022. A lot of analysts are starting to gravitate toward first-round draft pick Kenny Pickett winning the Steelers' starting quarterback job this summer. Trubisky, however, has a track record of success (he has a winning record as a starter, despite not playing in a great situation with the Bears). And he's obviously capable of taking over a game (as he did against the Bucs in 2018).
Trubisky isn't going to be the next Mahomes for the Steelers, but he could end up proving to be a much better option than a lot of folks expected.
