The Kansas City Chiefs made an addition to their running back room on Saturday by reportedly signing running back Ronald Jones.
Jones, who turns 25 in August, spent the first four years of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The former USC standout was a second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Jones is a versatile running back that catches the ball well out of the field. In 2021, Jones played in all 16 games and rushed for 428 yards and four touchdowns while catching 10 passes for 64 yards.
Jones made a bigger impact in the passing game in 2020 (28 receptions for 165 yards) and 2019 (31 receptions for 309 yards).

This is essentially a perfect fit for Andy Reid and Eric Bieniemy's offense. Reid loves running backs who can catch the ball out of the backfield (a la LeSean McCoy).
Jones instantly gives the Chiefs another threat in the passing game. He also provides Kansas City with some much-needed running back depth. The Chiefs currently have often-injured running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire at the top of the depth chart.
Edwards-Helaire, a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, has a lot of upside, but he needs to stay healthy. Adding Jones gives the Chiefs some insurance in case Edwards-Helaire can't stay on the field in 2022.
