Las Vegas Raiders, Alex Leatherwood

The Las Vegas Raiders have had a hard time with some of their first-round picks over the years. They don't have any of their first-round picks since 2020 on the roster anymore.

Henry Ruggs, Damon Arnette, and now Alex Leatherwood are all no longer on the team.

I guess they are trying to get the leftover pieces from the Gruden regime out of there.

Leatherwood has been awful for the Raiders. His technique leaves more than to be desired and his stats show it. The Raiders have been trying to find a trade partner for the former first-rounder for some time now.

It appears that on Tuesday, they realized there were no trade options out there for Leatherwood. So, they cut him.

This was kind of a shock. We knew Leatherwood likely wouldn't start or end the season as a Raiders, but we didn't think it would be by way of a cut. Mainly because of his contract.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Raiders now eat $7.9 million against the salary cap due to him being picked 17th overall.

This isn't good for the Raiders. Now they are paying a man not to play for them, and they still have to fix the issue at right tackle before the season starts. If they don't, they could be looking at a failed season.
