There's no doubting Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is one of the nicer guys in the NFL.

But there's also no doubt he's one of the most competitive players. If there is, he erased any existing doubts during a recent practice.

Earlier in the week starting cornerback Rashad Fenton broke up a pass intended for All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce. Both went to the ground and immediately got up and started jawing with each other, as typical teammates do.

Per The Athletic's Nate Taylor, Fenton yelled to Mahomes that Kelce pushed off him to gain separation and the Super Bowl/NFL MVP had quite the response.

“You’re f—ing holding every play!” Mahomes shouted as he clapped back at the fourth-year corner. Mahomes sure as hell wasn't going to let Fenton think he got the best of the offense on that play, perfectly demonstrating the competitive fire that has made him who he is.

It didn't bother Fenton, however, as he continued to celebrate in front of the defense, per Taylor.

The Chiefs have avoided fights during this camp, but obviously, teams want players to bring the intensity on every rep. Bringing out the highest levels of competition in each other will only lead to good things and Andy Reid has been around long enough to know that probably better than anyone.

“I challenged the guys, which I think was important,” Reid told reporters Thursday after the Chiefs wrapped up their final training camp practice. “That bonding becomes important. You bond when you’ve got to do something tough. I appreciate the effort that went into it. I know some of them were hurting, but they got up and they pushed through.

"That foundation will pay off for them down the road.”

Mahomes' competitive fire is certainly part of his foundation and hopefully he can instill the same level of competitiveness in his teammates.

So far, it appears to be working pretty well.
