Matt Eberflus was hired in January to be the Bears' new head coach. In April, linebacker Matt Adams, who played under Eberflus for four seasons when he was defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts, joined the Bears on a one-year deal.

Eberflus can't be too happy with Adams these days. The former Houston Cougar was charged and arrested for misdemeanor possession of a firearm on Thursday. He was also cited for possessing a high-capacity magazine within the city limits and metal-piercing bullets, which is a municipal code violation.

The Bears said they were notified of Adams' arrest on Friday.

Adams has been in the NFL since 2018. He's mostly been a special teams guy with 1,102 snaps in his career as opposed to 320 on defense (logged only one defensive snap the last two seasons). Adams has only made nine starts in 58 games played, and they all came in his first two years in the NFL.

On the football side of things, Adams was expected to compete for a starting linebacker position in the Bears base defense. He knows the system from his days under Eberflus in Indianapolis, which is expected to give him a head start in the offseason.

It remains to be seen if Adams' arrest will affect his roster spot, or spot on the depth chart, in any way.

The Bears stated that they wouldn't comment any further on Adams and his legal issue after getting the news. Adams has a court appearance scheduled for August 24.
