Tuesday is a huge day in the NFL. It begins the two-week period where teams can designate the franchise tag or transition tag.
The Kansas City Chiefs have one particular player that's a prime candidate to receive the franchise tag.
Offensive lineman Orlando Brown.

The Chiefs gave up a lot to land Brown last year — trading a 2021 first-round pick, a 2021 third-round pick, a 2021 fourth-round pick, and a 2022 fifth-round pick for Brown, a 2021-second round pick, and a 2022-sixth round pick.
It's hard to imagine Kansas City letting Brown get to free agency. But signing him to an extension won't be easy. Brown is an elite blocker who has reached three straight Pro-Bowls. He'll likely command a four-year or five-year contract that pays around $23 million annually.
Can Kansas City get that kind of deal done before March 8? That could be tough. That's why Kansas City could place the franchise tag on Brown to give the franchise some more time to work out a deal. This would be similar to what the Chiefs did with Chris Jones last season (he was tagged and then KC signed him to a four-year deal worth $80 million a couple of months later).
Brown wants to stay with the Chiefs, saying in December "I absolutely love it here in Kansas City".
I can't really see a scenario where Brown isn't in KC next season. It just comes down to how the Chiefs make it happen on the business side of things.
